Champman is a shortened term for the popular British game series Championship Manager that was released in 1992. The game was conceived and created by brothers Paul and Oliver Collyer in the bedroom of their home in Shorpshire.
Champman is brought to you by Sports Interactive a brand owned by London based SEGA a Japanese video game and software development company. It was first written in BASIC computer language then a widely used computer programming language and had a slow but steady climb to its current cult status. The game is basically based on the English Football management and there are four interesting versions in Champman the last version being the most popular and sought after in comparison to the former three.
Champman also known as CM was released with four playable English divisions. It included three major European trophies and all of the cups that were of any importance within the country. This version was well received not only in England but also in France, Italy and Norway. It was considerably adapted and localized for play in the three countries. Real player names were used in the Italian and Norwegian versions for added appeal and it was renamed after a famous football team manager in France.
CM2 or the next version in the Championship Manager series was released in 1995. it was revised in terms of game strategy, visual graphics, sound, enhanced menu and added audio commentaries. Although the game was appreciated and the changes encouraged a lot of criticism was placed on the added audio commentary feature. According to most fans of the game the audio feature was cumbersome in more ways than one as it was repetitive and set back the speed of the personal computer considerably. These and other alterations were made to release the CM3.
CM3 again had enhanced visual and graphic details along with game strategy improvements and other technical changes. This version also supported real playable leagues from both England as well as countries as far as South America and Asia. Football conferences were an added feature that allowed hours of interesting play.
CM4 which is really the last version is a highly modernized playing experience that retains the focus and plan of the original version. Not only are the graphics improved but additions such as stadium sounds add the realistic touch to this version. Seaway Human technology used in the CM4 allows players to change skins and in general to customize the game to their liking. This version additionally offers longer playing time and is considered the most superior football themed game not only by this company but by most others within the genre as well.
